I just saw my audiologist a few days ago, who recommended a website for identifying cell phones that are compatible with the telephone coil (T-coil) in hearing aids: www.phonescoop.com
From the Phone Scoop home page, click on "Phone Finder" and then "Show all options." You can then scroll down to the "Hearing Aid Compatible" query under "Features" and select a criterion, from M3 (mostly compatible) to T4 (very tele-coil compatible). When I ran a search for cell phones meeting the T4 compability requirements, less than ten cell phones came up (if you don't count the few BlackBerry devices).
I'm hoping to finally get a cell phone within the next few months, and I'd be very curious if anyone here has any further recommendations as far as cell phone brands that work well with hearing aids, carriers with networks that offer good sound clarity, etc.

Re: Hearing Aid Compability for Cell Phones
Wed, January 3, 2007 - 5:56 AMThe brand new Motorazr phones (v3m) are T-coil compatible and I think they have the highest T/M rating...
There are blackberry devices that are compatible? I always thought that only the flip phones are!. As for services that's good it might depend on where you live... I recommend service that use CDMA rather than GSM networks -- because you get better quality (you'll find more M/T rated phones too). I use sprint and I just recently purchased a V3m Motorazr phone (V3m on CDMA and I think v3i is GSM- but both new I think) It's so nice that I can use it without hearing the static like with my last cell phone. I still get interference when I ride on BART (Bay area train transit system) but I think they have some radio/communication system on the trains that interfere with my hearing aids.
Cingular may not have very much M/T compatible phones (cuz they're mostly on GSM and not CDMA) may find more choices with verizon (T-Mobile just plain sucks). If sprint's good in your area -- I'd go with sprint but they may not be good in your area....
