Wow, I was a bit shocked to see how few members this tribe actually has. I fear that bodes ill for what I'm hoping to do, but would nonetheless like to throw my bones and see what transpires. Out of existential despair and the sheer desire to see what happens, I have started a fresh tribe for us introverted, alternative, creative types who also happen to be as deaf as anything. Being socially retarded isn't required, but it helps. I tried the Say What Club years ago, but it wasn't a fit for me.
At this point in my life I'd be happy to spark up any old kind of dialogue. What the hey? tribes.tribe.net/deefmutants
In the meantime I'll also poke around here and get the lay of the land. I'm new to tribe.net, trying mainly to make some kind of human contact to fill the great void caused by separating myself from an emotionally disturbed person who was usually good for several emails a day

Re: Deaf, Weird and Lonely?
Thu, June 29, 2006 - 9:49 AMHi, yea I wish there was a bigger community online, i would have thought that would be the biggest of all. I moved to Sonoma County two years ago and haven't been able to find a deaf group or community get together. I lived in Los Angeles for 20 years and have been to a lot of deaf events like disneyland, comedy shows, six flags, ice skating. I have heard of the OC block but I didn't join because I just heard of it right when I was moving. It does sound like fun. I think I'm gonna try the aleworks in rohnert park, is it a non-smoking place?
I am hard of hearing & I can't fit in the hearing world at all, I am more into the deaf group, i signed through high school with friends and teachers but its different now that im in college and moved away, i haven't met a big fun community up here. -

Re: Deaf, Weird and Lonely?
Mon, August 28, 2006 - 4:57 PMSan Francisco has a group called Project Insight that has family gatherings for deaf families and friends. My husband is very hard of hearing and brought me to several PI gatherings, ie- superbowl party, coffee house gathering, summer BBQ, etc. It has been a great education for me and we love to bring our son there where lots of other kids who live in deaf related families can sign and play together. It's not just for familes, they have singles groups and age-specific groups. Just google "Project Insight' in San Francisco.

Re: Deaf, Weird and Lonely?
Thu, November 20, 2008 - 7:03 PMHi, I'm new to this, I actually joined today, I'm also pretty new to computers and just finding out about threads and posts.
I found this site by searching for a DVD movie and see if it had closed captioning or sub-titles or not threw googling, and somehow landed on tribe.net and the hard of hearing discussion.
I myself am hearing, my two children are deaf and I always try to find out anything about the deaf community, I'm a 59 year old male, I live in a place called Langhorne, Pa. a suburb of Philly Pa. and no I am not searching for a mate or sex etc. lol, I saw on this tribe.net so much of that, I said to myself what the hell did I join into, but of course I found my kind of threads also, I have responded to several others on this thread to say Hi and to introduce myself and see what happins, either way my name is Fredrick and I'm saying hello.
